LDA Low Dose Antigen Immunotherapy
Low Dose Antigen Immunotherapy (LDA) is an emerging treatment for a variety of conditions that revolve around the immune system. Allergies, food intolerances and multiple chemical sensitivities are some of the conditions treated by LDA.
Originally developed in the UK, Low Dose Antigen Immunotherapy (LDA) is a simple skin injection of a combination of substances (antigens) that, in high doses, cause the immune system to react. In contrast to conventional ‘desensitization shots’ LDA is so extremely low in concentration that by itself would could not cause any direct allergic reactions. Once an enzyme is added to the mixture, the injection induces a very gentle yet specific activation of a subtype of white blood cells. These so called T-regulator cells slow down overreactions of the immune system.
Many patients experience a significant improvement in their symptoms within the first few injections. To maintain the inprovement, only one shot every two months is necessary in the first year. In the following years many LDA recipients only need one to two injections a year to maintain the effects. LDA has an extremely safe track record and no side effects are known other than a temporary mild reddening of the skin at the site of the injection.
The treatment focus of LDA is primarily targeting Inhalant allergies, food sensitivities and multiple chemical sensitivities. Experience shows, however that LDA also provides help in other conditions that are related to the immune system, such as chronic chest infections, chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, epilepsy, irritable bowel disease, ankylosing spondylitis and others.
