Medical Ozone Therapy
San Francisco Preventive Medical Group provides leading edge Multipass Medical Ozone Therapy to stimulate the body’s inherent healing processes. European clinics have been using Medical Ozone Therapy for over fifty years. More recently, physicians and patients in the U.S. have also realized its benefits.
A variety of infections, auto-immune disease, and neurologic conditions can be treated with Multipass Medical Ozone Therapy, including: persistent inflammation, Lyme disease, shingles, recurrent herpes simplex, influenza, pneumonia, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, stroke, and brain and spinal cord inflammation. The immune system of individuals with cancer, including patients on chemotherapy or radiation therapy can effectively be supported by Multipass Medical Ozone Therapy.
How is Multipass Medical Ozone Therapy administered?
During Multipass Medical Ozone Therapy, the patient’s blood is mixed with medical grade ozone. First, a line is connected intravenously from the patient to a glass bottle and then another line is connected from the glass bottle to an ozone machine. Blood flows from the patient into the bottle, while medical ozone is released from the ozone machine into the bottle, mixing with the blood. The blood is then reinfused back into the patient. One cycle of this process is considered a single pass, and multiple passes can be administered during a single treatment. The entire process takes about 40 minutes.
How Medical Ozone Therapy
Affects The Body
How does it work?
Ozone Therapy uses medical grade ozone, a highly reactive form of pure oxygen, to create a moderate oxidative reaction and regenerative response in the body. We have known for centuries that the body has the inherent potential to heal itself. The regenerative properties of ozone enable the body to remove impediments to its own healing.
During ozone therapy, controlled and moderate oxidative stress occurs in the body. Moderate oxidative stress activates nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), which induces the transcription of antioxidant response elements (ARE). This transcription results in the body’s producing free antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes, including: SOD, GPx, glutathione-s-transferase(GSTr), catalase (CAT), heme-oxygenase-1 (HO-1), NADPH-quinone-oxidoreductase (NQO-1), phase II enzymes of drug metabolism and heat shock proteins (HSP).
These free antioxidants and antioxidative enzymes help protect the body’s cells from oxidation and inflammation. Ozone therapy may also activate Nrf2, and suppress NFκB and inflammatory responses, resulting in protection against neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
